Andy Murray has used his ranking of world No 2 to input Great Britain.
\nMurray needed to use his secure position to receive Great Britain in January into the group rivalry in Sydney – in which each tie has two singles and a doubles rubber – as Kyle Edmund wasn’t high enough to be eligible.
\nSpeaking on Thursday, the Scot said:”If I use my secure (standing ), I’ll play as the number one participant. If you are currently playing in a competition like that I believe, the player ought to be picked to perform with.
\n”The Australian Open would be the priority for me personally. And I really don’t need to move there and not play any games. So, I am finding that very a difficult choice to make.”
\nThe Scot is only in the infancy of his comeback from the hip performance which rescued his career, playing just three sisters championships, but he will come back to the ATP Tour in a fortnight, having recently dropped down to Challenger level for the very first time in 14 years, when he heads to China.
\nHe will play three tournaments in China – in Beijing, Zhuhai and Shanghai – until returning to Antwerp to the European Open.
