\nTwenty decades ago, Manchester Village Spartans RUFC was founded as one of the world’s first gay and inclusive soccer clubs. Now, there are over 80 such clubs worldwide in the International Gay Rugby (IGR) family.
\nLaunched using a grant in the NHS to help men lead more active lifestyles, the Spartans have improved far beyond expectations. They now field a first team at the local Halbro Northwest Intermediate League; have a team at the IGR UK League Championships Northern Division; and also train a development squad of players and those new to the game.
\nTheir approach to rugby is this third from the series’ focus of’Spotlight’ films produced functioning in the London Film School, and encouraged by Sky Sports. The three films have been released to mark.
\nThough many of these Spartans coaches and players were climbing up, the language created more complicated for them the connection between masculinity and football.
